The Lloyds TSB BAFTA Scotland Awards 2008

Despite the miserable Glasgow weather, the best of Scotland’s film, television and multimedia talent braved the elements to grace the red carpet at Glasgow’s City Halls on Sunday 9 November for the annual BAFTA Scotland Awards. The ceremony showed the diversity of Scottish talent working both within and outwith Scotland. Over 800 people attended and the event was broadcast live on the internet allowing people all over Scotland, the UK and indeed across the globe, the opportunity to watch the proceedings live.

The Scottish industry was out in force with Robert Carlyle, Robbie Coltrane, Brian Cox and Ken Stott just some of the home-grown talent in attendance. Jenni Falconer, Michelle Gomez and host Edith Bowman provided some glamour on what proved to be a night of typical BAFTA Scotland weather - rain, hail and even a bit of snow later in the evening.

Edith was delighted to be hosting her first BAFTA Scotland Awards stressing the growing importance of the ceremony “ things like this draw emphasis towards the arts and people making exceptional art, that’s the sort of thing that’s going to draw attention and funding”.

Brian Cox took to the stage to collect his prize for Acting Performance in Film and commented “ We have an incredible culture for a small nation. Our acting’s second to none and our writing talent is extraordinary”. This win on home turf clearly meant a lot to him “ The Scottish BAFTAs are a genuine look at our home-grown talent. As international as I would like to think myself. I’m still a boy fae Dundee, and to receive acknowledgment from one’s own kind always means a lot”.
