Announcement of This Year’s Award Winners
The stars were out in force last night at the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2009, held at Glasgow Science Centre on the banks of the River Clyde.
In The Loop, directed and written by Scot Armando Iannucci and starring Scots actor Peter Capaldi won a hat trick of awards, with wins in Writing in Film or Televison, Directing in Film or Television and Acting Performance in Film. Armando Iannucci was delighted he'd left the sunnier (and considerably warmer) climes of the Seville Film Festival to be present for the night to receive all three awards .
Robert Carlyle (The Unloved) won out over Bill Paterson (Spanish Flu - the Forgotten Fallen) and David Tennant (Dr.Who) in the fiercly competitive Acting Performance in TV (Male) category and Daniela Nardini triumphed over Lindsay Duncan (Margaret) and Stella Gonet (Holby City) in the Acting Performance in TV (Female) category.
Other television winners on the night included Rab C Nesbitt Christmas Special, acclaimed drama New Town and in the field of factual programming; Sighthill Stories scooped the Factual Programme award and Terry Pratchett: Living with Alzheimer's took Factual Series.
‘Crying With Laughter’ took the Feature Film award, seeing off competiton from Richard Jobson’s ‘New Town Killers’ and the documentary film ‘Kurdi’.
This year, for the first time, there were three distinct digital media awards – sponsored by Scottish Enterprise. This recognises the increasing contribution played by Scotland’s games, web and interactive markets to the nation’s moving image industries.
Dundee-based Proper Games beat Championship Manager 2010 Express and Low Grav Racer to the Game award, mechanical automata Cybraphon took the Interactive category and blipfoto(which you can access on-line at www.blipfoto.com/unstaged) scooped the best Web award.
The BAFTA Scotland Awards again had a live webcast,with the the full awards streamed live on the internet, giving people outside of Scotland and indeed the UK the opportunity to enjoy the night. You can still view all the excitement on the webcast page.
